What Is a Schengen Visa for Indian Citizens?

A Schengen visa is a short-stay entry permit used by Indian passport holders for eligible temporary travel within the Schengen Area. It can support tourism, business meetings, conferences, family or friends visits, cultural travel and certain transit purposes. It does not grant employment rights and is different from a national long-stay or residence visa.

For Indian travellers planning several European destinations, the main advantage is that one visa can permit movement across the participating Schengen countries during the authorised period. The general short-stay limit is up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period, but travellers must follow the exact dates and permitted duration shown on their visa sticker.
